DARK Act Food Labeling Laws Newsflash

The Center for Food Safety announced that the DARK Act that was passed in the House of Representatives in June of 2015 is poised to move to the Senate floor in just days from now. It has been dubbed the DARK Act, as in, Denying Americans the Right to Know. This bill blocks states from passing any GE/GMO labeling laws or GE/GMO restrictions. The DARK Act will rescind current GE food labeling laws passed in Vermont, Connecticut and Maine and nullify over 135 state and local regulations that restrict the use of GE crops or pesticides.

“It’s outrageous that some House lawmakers voted to ignore the wishes of nine out of 10 Americans,” said Scott Faber, senior vice president of government affairs for Environmental Working Group (EWG). “[The] vote to deny Americans the right to know what’s in their food and how it’s grown was a foregone conclusion. This House was bought and paid for by corporate interests, so it’s no surprise that it passed a bill to block states and the FDA from giving consumers basic information about their food.”

Just in time for Halloween, only a lot scarier. Please click on this link to the Center for Food Safety website where you can easily contact your senator to make your thoughts known.
